Men’s basketball wins, will host playoff opener Tuesday

men's basketball game

Congratulations to the Jackson College Jets men's basketball team on their Wednesday night win on the road over Muskegon Community College 88-79.

The Jets are tied for third place with Muskegon in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference, both with conference records of 11-7.  With Wednesday's win, Jackson College will now host the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 12 Men's Basketball Tournament March 6 in the Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse. Opponent is yet to be named.

In Wednesday's game, guard Brandon Thomas was high scorer with 28 points on the night. It was a strong night for the Jets with all five of the starters scoring in double digits; guard/forward Jagger Surface scored 18, Andrew Nicholson Jr. scored 16, forward Karinn Davis Jr. scored 11 and guard/forward Michael Bruce scored 10. Nicholson, Thomas and Bruce were also strong off the boards, with 9, 8 and 8 rebounds, respectively.

Muskegon's Jayhawks led through much of the first half, but the Jets battled back in the second half, tying the score a couple times early in the half before holding the lead for the rest of the game.

"We invite the college and the community out to cheer on our Jets players in this playoff game," said athletic director Heather Bateman. "This will be our first-ever playoff game at home since sports returned to the College, so we're excited! It should be a good game."

Next week's playoff game will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Come out and cheer on the Jets men!
